Sun Facts You Should Know - Part 2

In our last blog we answered some of your “burning questions” about sun protection, SPF, and UV, but we didn’t get to them all so in today’s post we’ll answer the rest

What’s the difference between UVA and UVB? Most of the UV rays that hit the earth are UVA which has a shorter wavelength and is associated with skin ageing. These rays cause deep wrinkles and brown spots on your skin. The longer UVB rays make up only about 5% and are associated with burns.

Will clothing offer any protection? Actually wearing hats, sunglasses, and long-sleeved shirts are excellent ways to keep you protected, although sunscreen is still necessary. There are lots of new innovations with fabrics now that have SPF built right in. Clothing with an SPF is great to have especially if you will be exposed to a lot of sun.

Can the sun damage my hair? It takes approximately 8 minutes for the sun’s UV rays to damage the outer cuticle of our hair? Prolonged exposure can wreak havoc on your tresses. Do your best to lower your exposure and where a hat when you can.
