Who has not heard of chamomile? This dainty, un-assuming petite flower is quite the powerhouse. It is mostly used as a relaxing herbal tea, but recently is showing up in several skincare products and for good reason.
Chamomile is native to Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. It is a small daisy-like flower with a pleasant fragrance. The main chemical components that give chamomile its superpower are chamazulene, apigenin, and bisabolol. Chamomile is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and mild astringent. These properties make it ideal for reducing the appearance of blemishes, combating the effects of free radicals that lead to premature aging of the skin. It is also considered to be hypoallergenic and is generally soothing and moisturizing.
We know that chamomile is good for skin and there is ongoing scientific research about its internal and possible medicinal benefits. There’s more to this little flower than what meets the eye.
P.S. Here's a tip: To reduce under eye circles brew some chamomile tea and allow the tea bag(s) to cool COMPLETELY. The skin on your eyelids is very thin and sensitive. Place tea bags on your eyelids and relax. Remove after 15 minutes.
