When we step into the shower and reach for the soap how much thought do we really put into that sudsy little bar? At Joa Bath and Body we put quite a bit of thought into it, from the exotic base oils to the fragrances. We want our product to be just right.
Yes, we use lye, but if you remember chemistry class, once you mix the oils with an alkali, a chemical reaction takes place and the two components you started with become something completely different – soap. Oh yeah and glycerin, a natural by-product of the soap making process. The glycerin can be removed through more processing to remove the glycerin, but we like to live it in. It’s a humectant [hyoo-mek-tuh nt] a substance that absorbs or helps another substance retain moisture.
