Foaming cleanser vs. Micellar water
If you want beautiful, glowing skin, it’s very important to keep it clean. There are several different types of cleansers on the market and a new light cleanser that seems to be working well is called micellar water. We wondered how well it compared to foaming cleansers. Was there much difference between the two and is one better than the other? Here are a few pros and cons of each
Foaming face cleansers are designed to clean skin from dirt, oil, bacteria and the like. They usually come in a bottle and is squirted out into a foam that is then applied to your face and massaged all over. You can also use a face scrubbing tool, or a soft cloth to gently scrub. Being sure to rinse thoroughly when you’re done.
Removes dirt, oil, and build up
Removes make up
Can be used every day (twice even)
Gives a thorough clean
Some are quite gentle to your skin
Must be rinsed properly or will cause further break outs
It’s not a one step product
Some cleansers can be harsh on skin. Choose a cleanser that is sulfate free and has other gentle ingredients (link)
Micellar water is defined as a liquid used to clean the face containing a chemical (a.k.a. surfactant) that forms into micelles (small groups of molecules). These micelles solubilize (dissolve) dirt and oil which is then carried off your skin. There’s a bit more to it than that which we’ll cover in another post.
This is a great product for times when you really don’t have time or energy for a full-face cleaning routine, but you at least need to take off your make up. Not to be confused with a toner, micellar water contains ingredients designed to clean your skin and is fairly simple to use. Pour a small amount onto a cotton pad and wipe face clean. I recommend rinsing afterwards, just to be sure there isn’t any residue left on your face.
It’s a one step process
Better than wipes
Removes most dirt and make up
Can be used daily
Great for “lazy days
Good for travelling or taking to the gym
Can be used to fix makeup mistakes
It’s not pure water so it’s best to rinse it off, if you can. Some people found that it can clog pores.
Doesn’t remove all make up especially waterproof
Need to use cotton pads (which adds an extra step and expense)
